Sunday, February 13th is a wonderful opportunity for you to give of yourself and give to yourself all at the same time at the Inaugural Twisters Barefoot Ball. By attending you will be giving of yourself by supporting Living Beyond Breast Cancer (LBBC) and by nature of participating giving to yourself in the practice of yoga.
The Barefoot Ball is the official launch event for Team Twisters as they raise funds and awareness for LBBC which is a nonprofit organization that provides breast cancer education, outreach and support services to women and families affected by breast cancer. It will be an inspirational day including a group yoga class, an operatic performance by Twisters instructor Natalie Levin following shavasana, light snacks and a giveaway. Twisters staff will be on hand to take part in the day and help with instruction as needed. This event is for everyone of all skill levels, even those who have never practiced yoga before. The suggested donation is $25; the money raised at the Ball will be the foundation for Team Twisters ultimate goal of raising $20,000 for LBBC by Sunday, May 15th at Yoga on the Steps.
Yoga on the Steps is LBBC’s big event, held annually, to help raise money and awareness for the cause. Entering its ninth year, 1,000+ men, women and children will gather on the steps of the Philadelphia Art Museum to honor and support the nearly 200,000 women who are diagnosed with breast cancer each year. This event brings together survivors of breast cancer, family and friends who have had loved ones diagnosed and caring individuals who want to do what they can to help. The basic all level, all ages, yoga class is held on the Art Museum steps set against the beautiful Philadelphia skyline. Jennifer Schelter, founder of Yoga Schelter in East Falls, will be instructing and Yvette Pecoraro, along with her group, will be providing live music during the class. A Healthy Living Expo will be held throughout the day as well.
Last year Team Twisters raised $10,000 for the Yoga on the Steps event, let’s take part and help them reach their goal of doubling that this year! There are many ways you can get involved:
The Barefoot Ball is Sunday, February 13, 1-2:30 (doors open at noon, yoga class begins promptly at 1pm) at Mercedes-Benz of Fort Washington. They have generously donated their showroom floor and will be clearing it for us to spread out our mats. You must register by Feb 6th and I would do it soon as space is limited and filling up quickly. Hope to see you there!
